Religious paintings

Delaunay painted religious subjects all his life. From Nantes to Paris – from the church of St Nicolas to that of the Holy Trinity – he focused on affecting subjects, and the Resurrection in particular.

The Italian Renaissance was a great source of inspiration: for him Giotto, Raphael and Fra Angelico had no peers. The art of his master Hippolyte Flandrin and of Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres was initially equally fascinating, although he would gradually free himself of their influence.
